The Good : Excellent & clear sound coming from such a small speaker, easy to pair up, battery life is extremely good, small enough to fit in your pocket, volume keys are easy to use, sleek & versatile design, very good range almost twice what’s advertised.
The Bad : Open the speaker more than 5mm and it can break, should have used Bluetooth 4.0, sound seems to be one directional but will still fill a room nicely, could use a little more bass, using buttons for call tasks are cumbersome.
In the box : Mini Stereo Speaker, USB Cable, 3.5mm Aux cable, user guide.
Bottom Line :
I really enjoyed using the BlackBerry Bluetooth Mini-Speaker. When I first took it out of the box I was impressed with the actual size of the speaker. I guess I know why they call it mini, it’s about 30% smaller than I anticipated! Battery life is extremely good, they claim it has 14h of streaming but I’ve pulled out roughly 12-13h of streaming music on a single charge. Pairing the device up was extremely easy and I didn’t even have to punch in the 4 zero’s, it just paired up automatically. Can it get any easier?
I liked the design of this product. You can stand it on either end and it feels solid enough that it won’t tip over. I had it sitting on a patio railing while streaming music and didn’t have any thoughts of it falling off. However, I noticed that the songs with enough bass did make the mini-speaker move around slightly.
Just like the security of any other BlackBerry device, this is no different. Sporting 128-bit encryption it’ll ensure that the data being sent to the speakerphone, be it music or a phone call, will be secure. Even if the speakers in your laptop aren’t the greatest you can connect and stream them to this sound-gadget for supercharged sound.
Range was surprisingly good, with line of sight and zero interference I was able to get almost 60 feet of range with my Z10 (which has BT 4.0). However, the second anything got between me and the speaker it started to distort and go choppy. Not any fault of the speaker itself but that’s the problem with Bluetooth technology.
Something else they’ve added to this pocket gadget is a hands-free speakerphone. I tried it and it worked quite well, just as good as any Bluetooth Speakerphone. The person I was speaking with said that the sound quality was excellent and background noise was there, but it was minimal.
The BlackBerry Bluetooth Mini-Speaker was an excellent device and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some great portable sound with speakerphone functionality.
